Academics: Crafted for students who have achieved the 300-level of French, this semester-long program consists of four classes, each receiving full Sewanee: University of the South course credit:
- FREN 322: Langue, Littérature, Culture
- FREN 323: Advanced French Language and Oral Expression
- FREN 324: Contemporary France
- FREN 325: 19th Century French Painting and Sculpture
Students can participate and complete their language requirement in Paris if they have completed FREN 203. APA works closely with Sewanee in order to tailor language sessions and work toward fluency.
Students who have already completed 400-level coursework may choose to replace FREN 323 with a course in the University of Paris system. Using APA's directory of classes at 10 Parisian institutions, they simply select their preferred one and APA will handle enrollment and course registration. This class will read as a "hours only" transfer credit on the transcript.
All students benefit from APA's custom academic and language support including tutoring sessions, methodology support, and proofreading assistance.
Culture: Bundled into the program, students will participate in guided group activities:

Culture: Bundled into the program, students will participate in guided group activities:
- Weekend excursions to Burgundy and Normandy
- Day trips to Chartres, Fontainebleau, and Versailles
- Attend six shows ranging from theater and opera to contemporary dance and circus in some of Paris' great performing arts centers
Students may also explore Paris at their leisure and will receive a:
- Museum pass for unlimited entries to national museums, including the Louvre
- City guide book and public transportation pass for the Paris city center and suburbs
APA organizes additional social activities throughout the semester including a welcome and farewell dinner. Always a memorable evening in November, students and French faculty gather round to break bread and celebrate a classic American Thanksgiving dinner.
Housing: Routinely, students say their host family is one of their most memorable times in Paris! Each student will be carefully paired with a French host by APA and have their own private room, seven breakfasts, and five dinners per week. One student is matched with each host to guarantee an authentic experience and have the opportunity to develop a personal rapport during their homestay.
