A great experience! Past Review
By Caitlin R (Human Biology, Iowa State University) - abroad from 05/25/2014 to 06/20/2014 with
Adelante: Edinburgh - Equine Summer Program in Scotland
I learned how to get around on my own and be more independent. Also I learned a little about the Scottish speech.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The classes here were great, I learned a lot that I can apply in the future. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The teachers here were helpful but student services were not. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
The rooms were nice and satisfactory. I liked that there was a kitchenette and each person had their own room with a bathroom inside. |
* Food: |
Food was okay. I am not very picky but be prepared for a lot of potatoes and meat. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Because we were in a big group of Americans, I felt pretty close to home. When we were out on the town I felt immersed in the culture. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
I had to going to the doctor and when I got there everything was good, I just found it inconvenient that I had to pay for my taxi and call my own both ways. |
* Safety: |
I felt very safe here. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
No
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
I had spent over what was the recommended budget because of taxi fare. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | £50 but that translates to a little less than $100. |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | The only thing I can recommend is to take advantage of any free rides you get, like the van and train on the weekend already covered in the cost of this program. Also don't go out as much if you don't want to spend money because taxis add up. It would be best to prepare yourself to have too much money than not enough. The exchange rate will get you. |

Reasons For Studying Abroad
To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you. |
The Avid AdventurerThe wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal. |
