By (Animal Sciences, University of Kentucky) - abroad from 05/29/2023 to 06/24/2023 with

Adelante: Edinburgh - Equine Summer Program in Scotland

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
The information I learned in the classroom will be taken with me throughout my academic and professional career.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Some of the curriculum was review, which I appreciated because I like refreshing my knowledge often. I came out of this program with a familiarity to concepts I will use for the rest of my academic and professional career.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Administration was amazing! I never felt left out or overlooked.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I am so used to the air conditioning in America... definitely the biggest culture shock!

* Food:

Dining hall food was not amazing and hot meals were not available outside of scheduled times.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Every single person got sick on week 2. The medicines here are very cheap and accessible.

* Safety:

There is more drinking here than where I am from in America. It has made a few people violent.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I had such an amazing time. There was a lot to learn in the classroom, and I made friends from my university that I had not known before.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I definitely spent way too much money.

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Make. A. Budget. You will go over budget, but it is nice to have a baseline to return to.
