Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

It was an incredibly fulfilling experience, but the work sometimes felt like too much for an acting program, though it was ultimately manageable.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

ASE was very helpful, kind, and provided a lot of useful resources.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

We had a good flat in a gorgeous and central area, but there was no elevator or air-conditioning.

* Food:

Food wasn't provided to us generally, but markets and fast food establishments, especially Gregg's, were very convenient. For our Stratford trip, we were given food money, and I once received free groceries after a cancelled picnic.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I got very used to walking around Bath and the residents were very friendly. I got particularly close to the Free-Masons at the local hall where our classes are held, and that has inspired me to pursue that lifestyle.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I did not have any health issues, and I don't remember anyone else having them either, but I'm sure it would have been fine. My physically disabled friends seemed to get the help they needed. I got accommodations for my mental disabilities. No air-conditioning was not great for heat sensitivity, and there were some trips with too much walking.

* Safety:

I never felt seriously threatened, even at night.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I loved Bath so much, and I loved all the places we went to. I also loved getting to learn about British theater and to perform it.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I was able to use the money provided to me through my scholarship and during the Stratford trip effectively. However, I also largely relied on the money I have from my family, and we're well off and don't discuss finances in detail, so I am lacking perspective.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? I didn't keep track.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Go to Gregg's. You can get a lot of wonderful food for very little money.

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • The location
  • The performance opportunity
  • The welcoming and warm people
* What could be improved?
  • Less workload
  • More flexible field trips
  • Tutors need to think out their curriculums a bit more ahead of time.
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? There will be more work than you expect but it is manageable. Memorizing lines is also going to be a lot easier than you expect.
