I Cannes Dig It! Past Review

By (Integrated Marketing Communications, Indiana University - Bloomington) - abroad from 02/04/2013 to 06/01/2013 with

AIFS: Cannes - Campus International de Cannes

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was the most worthwhile experience I have ever been through. If I had to do it over again I absolutely would. It was worth every dollar that I spent. I gained real-world experience, as well as professional world experience. I interned at the Cannes Film Festival and learned a lot about the entertainment industry which I am interested in a career in. I learned a lot about myself, and my strengths and weaknesses. I learned a lot about other people as well, how they communicate, and what drives people.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The program is tailored to fit your academic needs. You can take classes in English or French. You can even be a beginner in French and take this program. They give extra opportunities like a language partner from the city of Cannes if you want to speak with a local.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The campus adviser Sandrine and Aude rock!! They helped you with anything and everything you needed. If you ever got sick, needed restraunt, or activity suggestions, you name it! They were always helpful and their door was always open to talk about anything.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived in a dorm on campus and had the best time. I became lifelong friends with so many people and it made my experience that much more enjoyable. You are normally living with other Americans, but you can request a foreign roommate if you want.

* Food:

Included in the cost was food at the school cafe for breakfast, and lunch. French breakfast isn't great to begin with but their selection was similar to a continental breakfast. Lunch was definitely a hit or miss, but they always had fresh French bread out for you to eat which was delicious.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

The healthcare was great. I only needed it once but I was diagnosed the same day I made an appointment, and walked across the street to the pharmacy to get medication. My adviser came with me to make sure there were no problems.

* Safety:

I didn't have a incidents happen to me. I felt Cannes was a very safe city to be in.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I thought it was very easy to budget. Included in the cost was housing and meals so whatever I spent each week was really on personal things like travel, and clothes. I spent most of my money on travel, and food when I was in other countries.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 30
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Don't eat out all the time. Make it special and maybe only once a week. Eating out almost anywhere especially in France can run you about $20 each meal, so it is best to save your money for things that will last longer like traveling on the weekends.

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? Advanced
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? Fluent
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? 300 level French courses at University
How many hours per day did you use the language?
