About

Study abroad with the Institute for Study Abroad in Shanghai, China!

  • Select any combination of 9 credits: survey Chinese society or economy paired with a Chinese language course or internship, or focus exclusively on intensive language study.

  • Enroll in intensive Chinese language courses, live with a host family, and take a language pledge to exponentially improve your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.

  • Distinguish yourself professionally and network within the Chinese business culture as an intern at a national or multi-national company, arts-related organization, NGO, think tank, or government organization.

  • Dive into the bustling metropolis of Shanghai to explore the major social and economic transformations in Chinese society and practice your Chinese language inside and outside the classroom.

In the last century Shanghai has experienced exponential growth from its origins as a colonial trading port to a bustling international metropolis and global financial hub.  Today, the home of China's first free trade zone attracts an international population with its fast-paced industry and cosmopolitan vibe.  With rapidly expanding industrial, commercial, and service sectors, Shanghai serves as an ideal location for students wishing to improve their Chinese language skills and explore China's changing business environment and the global networks in which it plays an ever more strategic role.  Complete an inquiry for more information about our Summer in Shanghai program, including course syllabi, co-curricular activities, student housing, and previous internship placements.
