Living in an ancient city Past Review

By (International/Global Studies., University of San Francisco) - abroad from 01/20/2014 to 05/08/2014 with

American College of Greece: Athens - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
The only regret I have is that I wish I had studied a whole year abroad instead of just a semester. This was an opportunity of a life time! The education was great and I can't wait to study/live abroad again

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 6 months+

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Wonderful and very knowledgable professors that provided engaging and interesting classes

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Completely dissatisfied with the living arrangements. Study abroad students were told we would be living in off-campus apartments however these apartments were more like dormitory living with strict resident advisors. Extremely expensive and the housing staff is rude. It is nothing like living in an apartment. The sizes of the "apartments"/dorms vary but often times, like myself and many other students were placed in a 1 bedroom apartment with four people in it.

* Food:

The food in Greece is amazing! There was no food provided by the program or the host school.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 100$
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Don't overpack

The Academic or Linguist
You went abroad with specific academic goals in mind; the program credentials and rigor of your coursework abroad were very important to you. You had a great time abroad, but never lost sight of your studies and (if applicable) were diligent with your foreign language study. Good for you!
