Building and Rebuilding My Confidence in Arabic Past Review
By A student (Boston College) - abroad from 06/12/2014 to 07/11/2014 with
AMIDEAST: Amman - Intensive Arabic, Summer
I gained real use of the language and found myself able to communicate with locals on the street better than I could have ever imagined prior. I was so happy finally be able to really use Arabic.

|
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | Averaged out, ~$100 |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Buy mass-produced souvenirs (scarves, figurines, etc) downtown and haggle for a low price. How many hours per day did you use the language? | |
Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? | find news in Arabic online and listen to it, while you get ready in the morning, etc. Your ear really has to adjust once you're in country. |

A Look Back
* What did you like most about the program? |

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | It's okay to let go of the academics a little. I personally was not getting credit for any of the program so I wish I had been more moderate from the start. I had a lot of anxiety about grades when I really should have been trying to enjoy and explore everything around me as much as possible. |
Reasons For Studying Abroad
To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you. |
The Nearly Native or Trail BlazerCraving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.' |
