About
This thematic course explores the formative period of Christianity through an examination of the life and teachings of the Apostle Paul and of the art and architecture of the paleo-Christian and early Byzantine periods. Apostle Paul lived, not in a past world that is constantly aging and declining, but in a new world that transforms the old; therefore, understanding Paul begins in the context of, and is closely related to, the other religions of his time.
The course provides an in-depth study of Apostle Paul’s journey through various primary sources and biblical texts, as well as site visits in various locations around Thessaloniki, Athens, and an optional guided trip to Kavala and Philippi.
Through a religious, historical, and sociological analysis of a figure that lived in the Greco-Roman world, the course explores the life of the Apostle Paul, an extraordinary man that left his mark on his time and beyond.
