Carleton Global Engagement: Women's and Gender Studies in Europe
Definitely. Study abroad changed my life and made me think in new ways. Had a ton of great experiences I never would have had if I stayed in the US

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
I thought the workload was reasonable, the readings were challenging but it wasn't too much. Our program director could have been a little better at leading seminar, it became unproductive near the end. Grading seemed fine, I always did pretty well. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The European professors and speakers seemed more used to a lecture-based format than direct discussion and criticism like us American liberal arts kids were used t. The quality of lectures varied greatly between speakers in different countries. Some were amazing, others repetitive/boring. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
Great host families and locations, housing was good overall. Could have used more public transport/safety info in some cities (Prague, Krakow) |
* Food: |
Great, I loved that we got stipends and to eat out. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Our field trips in Turkey, such as going on the ferry and to the Turkish baths were amazing. It was great when the program director took time to show us the best spots, etc. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
Very helpful in terms of healthcare when my friend got sick. Felt generally safe, was glad we were given freedom to figure things out too. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
