API (Academic Programs International): Cork - National University Of Ireland, University College Cork

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
A lot of understanding of different cultures and heritage

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Academic rigor and intensity was very low, but resources and time to travel was high, and I enjoyed the classes I did take.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Simon was the best to be around and did plan a lot for us, although he was not always the most helpful with certain questions.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I ended up really liking everyone in my apartment, appreciating my location in proximity to everything and liked the apartment set up. Only thing I was disappointed with was I lived with all Americans when I was hoping to get a more inclusive experience of studying abroad.

* Food:

Ireland isn’t known for its food, but what I did have was good quality and relatively cheap.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Very, I did a lot in town and tried to make the best of every opportunity.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Pretty well, I felt comfortable with what I had and knew what to do if I ever needed anything.

* Safety:

Cork is a very safe place, I never felt any sort of threat.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I liked my program director and my location so much!

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I could have done a lot better with this part, I should have paces myself in a more constructive way.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $50-$250 a week
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Buy groceries and only go out to eat occasionally.
