Unforgettable!!! Past Review
By Courtney C (Biology, General., University of Wisconsin - LaCrosse) - abroad from 01/20/2013 to 05/21/2013 with
API (Academic Programs International): Limerick - University of Limerick
I learned to be more independent and I learned about values of other cultures. It was definitely worthwhile to travel and experience new opportunities!!

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
Classes have a lot less work throughout the semester. You generally have two major assignments (Mid-Term and Final) and it is a lot more nerve-racking but if you attend lectures and tutorials you will be just fine! |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
My host coordinator was incredible!!!!! She had a great personality and she was so helpful with everything! |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
The apartments were very nice! Rooms had own bathrooms which was very convenient! |
* Food: |
I bought and cooked most of my own food but the groceries were relatively cheap! |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I lived with 3 other Irish people and most of my classes were all Irish students so I was able to meet others and integrate well with the Irish culture. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
I went to the campus doctor twice but I would advise going to the pharmacy straight away because 1) it is free to ask for advice and 2) you can tell them your symptoms and they usually know what to give you! |
* Safety: |
If you are out at night, stay in a group but while abroad I never felt unsafe at any point! |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
Money was tough to budget! but if you limit yourself to a certain amount a week it will be fine! I estimated I spent around 40 euro a week on groceries. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | 100 Euro |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Make a plan to budget your money!!! |

Reasons For Studying Abroad
To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you. |
The Avid AdventurerThe wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal. |
