This study abroad experience has made me thankful for what I have in life. Scotland is such a beautiful country - I'll definitely be back one day.
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 0-2 weeks |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The workload consisted mainly of reading. In-class quizzes are typically not given, and your grade in a class usually just consists of 1-2 major papers and/or 1 exam. The way classes are set up is different from the American version, as you attend tutorials (smaller group for discussions) as well as lectures. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
More help could have been provided as we moved into our flats - there was confusion when we first arrived. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
Easy 10-15 minute walk to the main campus. Bus stop right outside. Grocery store only a 10 minute walk away. |
* Food: |
The food itself in Scotland isn't anything to write home about. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
The camping trip to Firbush that was arranged by my program was probably one of the best trips I went on while I was there. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
No safety-related issues come to mind. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | I cooked for myself in my flat - groceries (depending on where I shoppped) would cost approximately 30GBP per week. |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | We had to purchase our own bedding packs as soon as we arrived, but we were reimbursed. |
Language
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | None |
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition? |

|
* What could be improved? |
|
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | This program is great for anyone looking for a place to STUDY abroad. In the fall, there aren't any breaks from classes, which makes it hard to travel extensively. |
