Arcadia: London - London Internship Program

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained more from the experience than I can put into words. Before I left, I talked to friends who studied abroad and all they could say were positive things. I am in a very similar situation. All I can say about studying abroad is: go, do it, I have never met anyone who regretted their experience.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Arcadia staff seemed more concerned with the incoming Freshmen who were also in London but on a separate trip. The staff also seemed to blame Arcadia students for the failings of the professors, when most students made the same complaints.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

20 person flat. I lived in a room with two other girls. Very comfortable accomodations in Earls Court, London, SW10. Close to a tube station, and very nice overall.

Neighborhood was very safe, we enjoyed where we were very much.

* Food:

I made my food myself.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

For the most part, I feel like I made the social aspects of my program on my own time.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Though Ryanair and EZJet may seem like cheap airlines (and they are) make sure to take a later in the morning flight. I was stuck more than once taking a cab to a tube station to pay additional money to get to the airport. The cheaper airlines fly out of airports that are a significant distance from the center of London, so be careful.

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? The internship makes this program. I would not trade my internship experience for anything at this point in my life.
