Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 0-2 weeks |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
Academic rigor and intensity were acceptable. UCL's administration and resources available were abysmal |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Arcadia did a poor job in their role as an administrator. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
Awful. Just awful. Not only were there numerous pests living in the building (flies, roaches, mice, rats, etc.) but also the program's advertising made one believe that there was a range of options rather than one poor assigned option. Additionally, we were assigned roommates, and they were matched extremely poorly. |
* Food: |
Cooked for myself. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
|
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
Hospital system was easy to figure out. If I had a major problem I don't think it would have been as easy, but the combination of non-emergency and emergency NHS helplines and many available hospitals made the process simple. |
* Safety: |
|
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
No
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
London is very expensive, even if you are cooking for yourself. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | ~$150 |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Take the bus instead of the tube and save 70 pounds a month. Cook for yourself. Avoid the national rail system. Don't drink too much. |
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | No |

Reasons For Studying Abroad
To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you. |
The Academic or LinguistYou went abroad with specific academic goals in mind; the program credentials and rigor of your coursework abroad were very important to you. You had a great time abroad, but never lost sight of your studies and (if applicable) were diligent with your foreign language study. Good for you! |
Individual Course Reviews

Further Topics in Biochemistry |
Course Department: | Molecular Biosciences |
Instructor: | Dr. Taylorson |

Comments: | Fascinating subject. Lecturers were all knowledgable about their specific fields. However, my entire grade was determined by one test at the end of the semester. This test almost exclusively asked about minutia and did not encourage overall knowledge of the subjects at hand. |
