Arcos Journeys Abroad: High School Program - Spanish Language & Mexican Culture
I gained a lot of confidence in my Spanish skills and a deeper understanding of Mexican culture and history, particularly of its indigenous peoples. I definitely think the experience was worthwhile, and I would 100% participate in this program again.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The classes were challenging and fun, and presented many immersive learning experiences. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The on-site administration was organized and well-executed. The directors and counselors made all the experiences enjoyable and were helpful in answering questions and addressing doubts. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
My living arrangements were perfect. Laundry and commutes were quick and easy thanks to my homestay, and the accommodations were great and easy to adjust to. The bathroom was great, the beds were comfortable, and the house was a nice size with a nice garden. |
* Food: |
The food was spectacular. The hosts cooked great traditional dishes for us, and the choice of food nearby that we could buy ourselves was also of great quality. The markets and restaurants we visited with the program also served great authentic Mexican food, and the eating experience overall was great. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I felt integrated with the local culture. The hosts and neighbors were locals, and on top of touring the city with the program a decent number of times, we students were given a lot of free time to roam the city during our downtime and explore local cultural events ourselves. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
I had no experiences with health during the program, but overall sanitary guidelines were made pretty clear by the program. |
* Safety: |
Oaxaca is an extremely safe city, especially for those moving around in a group in the touristy areas. The drivers tend to be unforgiving to pedestrians, but if you wait and look both ways before you cross, safety will not be an issue. The curfew also ensures that the students do not find themselves in unfavorable situations that may result from staying out too late in the wrong parts of the city. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
