Atlantis: Pre-med Fellowship Abroad

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I loved the AP because it forced me to go outside my comfort zone until I widened it. I learned that to truly experience the newness of being abroad, I had to dive in and submerge in a new place, and it was so worth it! There would have been a time that if you'd told me I would've been easily conversing with European doctors after only three weeks of Portuguese, or would've tried a type of fish redder than a tomato, or would've successfully climbed three volcanoes in a day on an excursion, I would've thought you were talking about someone else. The Atlantis Project is ideal for most anyone with the desire to expand their horizons in ALL directions: culturally, medically, linguistically, intellectually, and interpersonally.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? None

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • Exposure to Medical Field
  • Language Immersion
  • Fun excursions
* What could be improved?
  • Connectivity while on the internship
  • Knowledge of how to explore on your own
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I'd been able to connect with other people on my program before leaving (in ways other than facebook stalking, haha). I also wish I'd known a bit more about cooking for myself - I loved Azorean cuisine but it's so much cheaper to cook at the apartment rather than eat out all the time.
