Study Away and Internship Programs in New York City
The biggest quality that I gathered from this experience was being able to look at the world from other perspectives. NYC is the best place to do that! With so many people, cultures, and walks of life around you, it would be ignorant to refrain from learning other cultures and experiencing customs that only NYC has to offer.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The grading system, and system in general, is very standard at New York University. While only taking a journalism class, it was difficult to get a feel for the school. Most importantly, the majority of the NYU students that I was able to meet were very professional, cordial, and had a great sense of city-smarts and people skills that make one stand out among others. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Though the staff were mainly responsible for event planning and program structure, many of them involved themselves with the students and made the experience even better. It was great to meet faculty from around the world, and understand that people from the other side of the world are just like the rest of us. The size of the program was reasonable, and exactly what I expected. In a situation like this, the more the merrier. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
Not only was the housing above and beyond suitable, but my roommates made my experience a blast. My roommates, and good friends, were from Vancouver, Ohio, and California. I felt the majority of the students on my floor had a good head on their shoulders, and knew exactly what they wanted in life. |
* Food: |
To put it in a nutshell, NYU food is amazing, nutritious, and not having to worry about grabbing lunch and dinner every day really makes a huge difference. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
In my mind, Union Square provided a perfect setting for a social life. Going out on weekends, dinner cruises, and simply walking around the city are memories that I think about every day. I learned so much from my fellow friends, colleagues, and bosses. Learning how to get around a city like NYC, is the best education experience that can be offered. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
This was a very standard procedure. Though I did not have to receive any health care, it was made clear to approach staff if one needed anything. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and I'm confident that anyone in need would approach them if there were a situation regarding medical attention. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |

Language
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition? |

A Look Back
* What did you like most about the program? |
|
* What could be improved? |
|
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | ALWAYS BE OPEN TO NEW THINGS! Obviously, use good judgement, but programs like this are life-changing if you let them. Reach outside your bubble, and let yourself think outside the box. Meeting people, starting conversation, and networking are skills that I improved upon during this experience, and the real skills that are necessary for achieving in LIFE! |
