Study Away and Internship Programs in New York City

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Living and working in New York changed my perspective about what is possible for me in life. Coming from California, I felt like I had seen a lot, but New York City has so much to offer and EiAbroad made it very easy for me to experience that. My internship was in restaurant management at Ken & Cook and it was incredible.

I learned a ton, but I guess you could say it didn't exactly feel like work?

Everyone working for EiAbroad was super nice and friendly. They were available but not too present.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Beautiful apartment in the lower east side of Manhattan.

It's New York city, what else needs to be said?

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

New York can be a tough place to get to know people if you are not really outgoing, but with some of the events that EiAbroad organized, I was able to integrate myslef by the end of my internship

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

As in any city, you need to keep your head on a swivel at all times. There are so many people around that you feel safe, but it is important to stay alert at all times.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

New York is expensive, but it's worth it!

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • The internship!
  • Living in an apartment in NYC
  • Friendly staff
* What could be improved?
  • Small organizational matters.
  • Had to do a couple interviews before I got my internship.
  • Airport pickup is only if you arrive on a particular day.
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I went in to the program expecting to learn a lot, so there is not much that I feel I could have or should have known before.

The Academic or Linguist
You went abroad with specific academic goals in mind; the program credentials and rigor of your coursework abroad were very important to you. You had a great time abroad, but never lost sight of your studies and (if applicable) were diligent with your foreign language study. Good for you!
