Boston University: Dublin - Internship Program, Summer

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I definitely became more street-smart from this program. Not only that, but this program helped shape my future academic and professional goals. I thought the program was worthwhile!

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

Ireland doesn't have its own strong food culture, but you can get food of all different ethnicities throughout Dublin.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Dublin is quite similar to Boston. Also, the local people were very friendly

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

No vaccines specific to the program, and no prevalent host country health issues. Most of healthcare system's burden stems from country's alcoholism issues.

* Safety:

I never felt unsafe in Dublin, even after staying out late into the night so long as you're in groups of 2+.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I thoroughly enjoyed the program, but the biggest drawback was the price. I don't mind how expensive it is, but rather I am confused as to where many of the expenses included in the program went. Food and transportation to and from the internship are not provided, which added up quite substantially. Otherwise the program was nice, and Dublin is a great city with a lot to offer.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 75
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Utilize the farmers markets for produce in Dublin. Buy carbs in "bulk" (small rice bags, packets of pasta, loaves of bread, etc.) and pack your lunch at least somewhat frequently on internship days
