Boston University: Dublin - Internship Program, Summer

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It helped to me to see what it is like to live on your own.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The instructors were very clear with their expectations and were easy to talk to. I found the History of Ireland class to be very interesting and the field trips were a lot of fun.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I felt that some of the administrators were hard to communicate with. Thankfully most of the questions I had were answered, but not right away. I also found the orientation a bit overbearing especially because I was terribly jet lagged and it could have been more or

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I loved living at UCD. My dorm was so clean and beautiful. The campus is so fun and there is always stuff to do and explore. Everything in Dublin is pretty accessible from the campus because there are multiple bus stops near by.

* Food:

I really enjoyed going to the grocery store in Ireland. Everything is so fresh and for the most part the grocery stores were very affordable. I also loved to go to pubs to go out to eat.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I felt I could have been integrated into the local culture more. I enjoyed talking to my professors, going on field trips, and going out and about, but I felt I had few people to talk to who were around my age from the area.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I did not have an experience with healthcare.

* Safety:

I found Dublin to be very safe. The guarda are approachable and helpful. The public transport was also pretty reliable.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

I would like to choose a program that would allow me to travel outside of the host city more frequently or for longer periods of time. I would also choose a program where I could engage with the local community more easily (especially those in college).

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No
