Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The educational experience crosses with the cultural experience because I was learning a new language. My classes were intensive, understandable yet challenging. I had wonderful teachers, however sometimes I did feel a little overwhelm with classes. I believe with learning another language it is better to spend the time talking with the native people, going to stores, and doing extracurricular activities. However, despite the long class hours, I enjoyed every moment in class. I learned how to distinguish between Southeast Asian French accents, the formal

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The on-site Boston University administration was awesome! They were very helpful in academic and logistical problems, travel plans and emotional struggles. For myself, I had a family emergency and the staff was very caring and supportive. They did all they could to help me during such a difficult time. They were very resourceful and knowledgeable in learning more about France and french.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I was very satisfied with my living situation. I had a wonderful host family who were super supportive, caring and charismatic. My host mother showed great concern and was practically my best friend in France. She was very organized and resourceful. As her 15th student, I was worried if I could be different or remembered by my host mother, but because of her experience, she provided an unique experience. She was accustomed to student necessities and was prepared for all trivial and major problems. My living conditions were superb. I felt very safe, secured and at peace.

* Food:

My host mother cooked regularly and the food was awesome. It was a cultural change to eat raw meat, bread every morning and a variety of cheese and wine. I ate around 3 times a day, as the French would, and I found it very enjoyable. I was eating non-fried, very healthy food and I lost a measurable amount of weight. It was different but tasteful and delicious.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I hesitated with completely integrating with the culture because I was fairly new practicing the language. However after the second week the anxiety quickly vanished. I started meeting new people, exploring different parts of towns and going to multiple events. At first, it was intimidating assimilating however after a while, meeting new people was easy. Speaking a different language everyday was exciting. I had a host dog and everyday I was able to command a dog in a different language. It was fun to order food, shop in stores, ask for directions or simply saying hello. I would watch movies and cook with my host family and it became some of my most memorable moments. I love integrating with the culture and people. My host family had a plethora of friends, and I was able easily to meet more French natives. I also met people from all around Europe and it was interesting meeting people from distinct countries.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I didn't have any health issues while abroad.

* Safety:

I felt very safe in my host home. I lived in a very settle part of town and there wasn't any major crimes transpired.
