What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was one of the best experiences of my life. I'll never forget the friends I made and the moments we shared together. Going abroad had made me appreciate life in the US so much more.

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Boston University does as much as it can to make the transition from an American education system to a British one. The professors understand we are Americans so they always very willing to him. British professors treat students more as independent adults. They do not remind the class to study for an exam. Students have to take more responsibility of their studies.

The BU London program has been going on for many years. My sister went on the same program 6+ years ago. They have truly learned how to perfect the things that needed to be changed. One major negative of the program is there are no laundry services in any of the housing buildings. Doing laundry in London costs around $18 for one load. If they bought a couple of washers and dryers it would be much cheaper for everyone. Also, there is no kind of meal accommodation. I think some kind of percentage off at a certain restaurant or cafe would really help the students out. Some major positives of the program is that since we are all Americans living together and learning together one doesn't experience culture shock as much as someone who was engulfed in an all British community.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Housing is given by Boston University. Housing is in THE safest richest part of London. It is absolutely perfect. Classes are about 15 min walk from housing. Sheets and cookware are provided by BU.

* Food:

I shopped at Tesco Express by the Gloucester tube station. I cooked my own food the majority of the time. Food is really expensive in London so one needs to know what to buy.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I attend 2 films from the London Film Festival. BU gave us the chance to buy tickets before anyone else could.

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

The city is extremely safe. My friends and I would walk around at all hours of the night and never feel like anything was wrong. I luckily never had to go to a Doctor while in London. But from what I hear their healthcare system is very easy to use and free for anyone.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Transportation is expensive, so make sure you budget for it.

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Travel out of London and see the countryside. One of the prettiest views I've ever seen.

Advertising in the UK

Comments: I've never taken an advertising course prior to my study in London. Initially it was challenging because since I didn't live in the UK I was not familiar with a lot of the UK brands. That quickly changed by simple getting into the British culture by reading newspapers, watching TV, and befriending British mates. I absolutely loved the course and the way it was taught. Robin has a true understanding on all things advertising. He has a great deal of experience in the field.
