A Great Choice Past Review
By A student (Brandeis University) - abroad from 01/15/2017 to 04/28/2017 with
Boston University: London - London Internship Program
The friendships and memories I made were obviously the best part of my trip. I didn't know any before going to my program but when you travel Europe with a group of people it is inevitable to become close. .Balancing two jobs, school and internship made me a whole lot more responsible. The internship was amazing because many people my age don't get to say that they intern at a law firm abroad.
Personal Information
| How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 0-2 weeks |
Review Your Program
| * Overall educational experience Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. | In terms of rigor, the courses were much easier than at my home institution. However, the classes themselves for the most part were extremely fun. We went on a lot class trips to museums, the Supreme Court walking tours, I even had a free trip to Belgium. The professors prioritize exposing their students to England's culture and history. Very enjoyable! |
| * Host Country Program Administration On-site administration of your program | I had the privilege of actually working for the Program as a assistant (recommend this job for anyone who wants a bit more pocket cash) The administration is very hardworking and helpful. They truly care for the students and do their best to ease any of their anxieties. |
| * Housing: How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? | The school provides dorm I shared a large room with four other people. However, it was actually really fun and I became very close with my roommates. In addition, my class was a 2 minute walk and one of my classes was actually inside the dorm so that was very convenient. |
| * Food: | We had a kitchen that we shared with the floor (so in total ten of us). So sometimes it could be a bit crowded if everyone was trying to cook at the same time. But the grocery store was also only a 2 minute walk from the dorm and there were soo many cute restaurants to go to. |
| * Social & Cultural Integration: How integrated did you feel with the local culture? | The BU program is for predominately American students. So you tend to be a bit isolate from hanging with locals. However, all of your professors are British in addition to there is an internship so you get a chance to work with British people in the field that you choose. Socially, I had an American experience abroad but I was deeply immersed in England's professional culture. |
| * Health Care: How well were health issues addressed during the program? | The Health care was really great, although I did not personally use it was very accessible. |
| * Safety: | When I was in London, I felt extremely safe. Sometimes I would walk to the grocery store or from the train station to my home late at night and I felt safe. However, there was the one attack in Westminster during my safe, luckily I was not in the area. In addition, no one from the program was hurt. |
| If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? | Yes One of my favorite aspects was that all the kids were Americans. While perhaps an unpopular opinion, I really enjoyed it because I was able to keep in touch with the friends I made after the program. Since I am in Boston area, I get a chance to hang out with all my friends from BU. It is nice to know that experiences I had in London can still grow. |
Finances
| * Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget? (1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) | I was able to budge pretty well. I cooked most days of the weeks which saved money. I also received a scholarship from BU (which I recommend people apply to ) that helped lower some cost, I received an additional scholarship from my home institution and I was able to work for BU during this time. In addition, I worked remotely as a research assistant. For each trip, I made a budget of how much I planned to spend. |

A Look Back
| * What did you like most about the program? |
 |
| * What could be improved? |
 |
| * What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | The internship part of the program while rewarding is exhausting at times. It was the first time that I had to work 9-5 sometimes longer, in addition, I sometimes had work afterwards. |
