London Internship Programme: putting post-grad into focus Past Review
By Mary K (Art History, Criticism and Conservation., Providence College) for
Boston University: London - London Internship Program
It was invaluable! Studying and interning abroad has taught me so much about the contemporary art world, and really focused my post-graduate plans!
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 1 month - 6 months |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
|
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Academically the administration was wonderful, and the social programming was great. They really knew a lot about the host country and American culture, and made the transition easy. My expectations were exceeded. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
Housing was disappointing (only half of the amenities in the kitchen worked, and our hot water heater was broken...it took them over a month to fix it!). We were in a really nice and safe neighborhood..close to classes, but which also had the most expensive cost of living in London and was far away from nightlife. We had to buy sheets, some cookware, and all bathroom supplies. |
* Food: |
had to pay for and prepare all our own food |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Just getting to know the people I lived with was great...this was aided by various "flat activities" in the first week. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
It was very safe feeling...I do not know anyone who had problems. I myself did not use the healthcare, but my friends all found it to be adequate. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | You are responsible for your own food, laundry expenses, and transportation....which really adds up with the current exchange rate. Plan for two to three times what your personal expenses in the US are. |
