I was completely immersed in French; what's not to learn?

On-site administration of your program

The administrators were always very pleasant and willing to help once we were in Paris. It was just difficult for me to know whom to contact before I arrived.

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived in an apartment in the 16th arrondissement of Paris with one other student from the BU program. We each had our own room. Our host family consisted of an elderly woman who was absolutely wonderful. There was also another young French woman who rented out a room in the apartment. <br /><br /> Location was within walking distance of the university and in a very safe neighborhood. It was also close to the metro. However it was pretty far from downtown/central Paris and ended up being an hour away from my internship (but that probably couldn't be helped). But I loved the people I lived with!

I tried to cook/buy in bulk to safe time and money and I didn't have a lot of resources, so the meals I made were pretty average. The host meals we had were exceptional though.

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

They were good an integrated us a little more into French culture. However, they never introduced us to other french students. I definitely appreciated the theater outings though.

I always felt safe during the day. I wasn't comfortable traveling alone at night in some areas though.

Having to speak in the house really made me practice speaking and taught me more colloquial language. Learning specific grammar and pronunciation points in class helped keep the rules fresh and cleared them up in my mind. And learning art history taught me some more cultural aspects about France. The internship taught me more practical/business language and made me learn how to work in a different language and culture.
