BridgeAbroad: Buenos Aires - Intensive Spanish Language

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Traveling abraod is great for your spanish but also it is good to get out of your comfort zone and learn about the rest of the world. This expereince changed my future goals in that I am not in such a big hurry to go to graduate school. I want to travel and see much more of the world while I can.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The teaching methods were great. The teachers changed about once a week so that the students were able to hear different accents and experience different teaching methods.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The administration at bridgeargentina was excellent. The faculty went above and beyond what I had expected to help us learn and to make us comfortable with the city and accomodations in general.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The location of my host family was not too close to the school but the host family was great so it was way worth the travel everyday. My host family treated me with the upmost respect, my experience would not have been as good as it was without her.

* Food:

quality of food was good. Food for the most part was cheap and there are many options. Host family was very accomodating with food.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I really enjoyed going on excursions with the school because they were able to educate us about the areas we were visiting. The people in Argentina were great, I never ran into a problem with them once. They were very generous.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I did not have any problems regarding safety however I did meet peole who were pick pocketed and things of this nature. The advice I have for this aspect is to just be aware of where you are and keep your belongings close to you at all times. The host family was very safe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? I was able to manage by money well. I spent a little more on meals than I had budgeted but only because I wanted to go with the other students in order to be social, it was not necessary. Services were very cheap in Argentina however goods were a little bit more expensive (i.e. clothers, technolgy.)

Language

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I think this program was great. I felt very prepared for my trip in advance and was told very realistic information to help me once I got to Argentina. This experience was great I learned alot and I encourage everybody to use this program.
