I was never more aware of poverty but was so touched by everyone's tolerance. Here the homeless are an eyesore and there they were viewd as people and let into to restaurants to sell their art and wares. It was so worthwhile. I learned more spanish than I had ever learned in a classroom and met the most wonderful people. Every moment was worth it. When a flock of green parrots landed at my feet one day I thought I'd have paid the airfare just for that.

My host family was so great! On my last day of class I rushed to show them my progress report and felt like a little kid, but they reacted like parents and congratulated me. I think living with a host family is the ideal way to learn |

Every friday we had the option of going to a bar/cafe with a teacher. This ensured we were being taken into a safe enviroment and it was a fun way to see other neighborhoods in the area. |

Watch the traffic. It's just a good idea to always be aware of your surroundings, but overall I never felt in danger. |

A Look Back
| * What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | I think any and every student could benefit. Future city planners can see areas both cramped and well thought out. The writers can glean material, the political students can study a different government. Every local seemed eager to talk and proud of their country. |
