Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

It was very rigorous, and intense. Those would be two words I would use to describe the program. We had many resources to study and reference from that were provided by our professor, Dil. The homework was useful but took a lot of time. The thing that made this course intense was the speed at which we covered material, and the homework load. The material itself was difficult but the time it took made it harder to complete.

On-site administration of your program

Qasid Institute was very helpful whenever we had issues rise up with needing things fixed, they were quickly resolved. The front desk clerk was always trying to help deliver the letters that came to me, which i greatly appreciated.

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

the apartment we lived in was wonderful, we hardly had issues with anything, and did not run out of water. The internet was unstable though.

the food was cheap, and I enjoyed buying and making my own food.

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I felt like in the context of living with Americans and the amount of homework we had made it difficult to be fully integrated with the local culture. But the speaking assignments gave me opportunities to go out, meet people and make friends, and our neighbors were quite friendly and invited me over for dinner. I spent a good amount of time with natives, but I since I spent a year in Egypt living with a host family, I felt like I was not very integrated with the local culture. Mostly, I spent time with my roommates and fellow American students. The weekends gave me opportunities to visit people and historical sites.

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Our professor was very helpful in telling us where to find dehydration packets. I did not have any other experience with healthcare.

If you're careful and safe, you will be safe. Girls shouldn't go out at nights, or they should be accompanied with three other people. Stay away from soccer games in the stadiums. People should travel with others, don't find yourself alone. Be observant to those around you, and the behavior of the natives. Try to mimic them, and you will draw less attention to yourself. When a girl is in an all girl setting, she can be more open and more outgoing if that's her personality. Girls who act bubbly or very happy around native young men send the wrong message to them, that they are interested in the young man.

The food was cheap. The only extra costs were field trips and souvenirs which were optional, but I think I stayed on a decent budget.

This was the main goal of the program. To use our language and improve in our language skills.
