Study Abroad Programs in London

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was so worth while because I was able to travel to other countries while I was there, and experience other ways of life in Europe besides the British.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I thought that the courses that were taken at University of Westminster were extremely informative and I learned a lot about the British political system. I thought the way the courses were structured were strictly lecture format, with not a lot of class participation...which in my mind doesn't exactly stimulate the minds of students as much as a more participation based class would. Overall my professors were intelligent and extremely informative about the topics that were being discussed.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I absolutely loved Andrea, who was our Host in England. She knew everything about the city of London and was extremely accessible at all hours of the day. She was fantastic when it came to solving problems, and knew how to do so in a manner that would benefit everyone. I thought the number of students that they allowed in the program was a great size for us to get to know everyone equally and become close friends.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I thought the area that we were in London was absolutely beautiful. It was in close quarters to most everything to do in the city, and was extremely safe. The only problem was that there were a lot of issues constantly within the flats. We had bed bugs more than once in our flat, and the hot water loss was a constant problem. I thought the way it was handled was not exactly the right way to do so, as we were blamed for causing the bed bug problem, when most of us came from places in the US that did not have any prior issues with bed bugs.

* Food:

We had a fend for ourselves kind of food style over there, where we bought everything for ourselves...which was nice because we were able to cook what we wanted to. I suggest taking a look at some of the little hole in the wall restaurants that serve Kebabs, or Fish and Chips those were the best ones that I found in London.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

We took a tour around the entire city of London, that was excellent because it enabled us to know where everything was, and we were able to go visit each site on our own. My most memorable event would have to be taking the tour of Parliament.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

In London, you are safe if you travel in packs. Don't travel by yourself late at night in certain areas because you will be a target for muggings, like in any big city. But overall our area was safe enough that we didn't really have to worry about it.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)
