Mixed Feelings in London Past Review

Study Abroad Programs in London

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes it was worthwhile. I liked getting internship experience. I just wish my internship would have been better organized or at a firm that needed me more. The internship did allow me to see myself as a lawyer in the future.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Since I only took two classes abroad, the workload was much less. Otherwise, the classes were basically the same as ones I may have taken at the University of Rochester.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

A major weakness was the difficulty involved in meeting locals.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Proximity to everything was great. The neighborhood seemed very safe. The kitchen was very small and not well equipped. We would also have appreciated more than 1 bath towel each.

* Food:

Food is expensive. Our kitchen had very little storage space, especially in the fridge.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I really liked my roommate. I did get to go to Berlin for a weekend. I wish I could've gone to Paris or Rome.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

We lived in a very upscale area so it seemed very safe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? On food, per week average was around $40.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? I wish I would have opened an HSBC checking account in the US because they have HSBC in London.

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
