Brigham Young University: London - London Study Abroad

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned to much about myself and other people by just observing. It was definitely worthwhile.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I felt like the only interaction we got with actual English people was in our wards. So just once a week, on Sundays. I would've LOVED more interaction with Brits.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I never needed any healthcare so I can't really say... I mean, I guess it was fine.

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I came back with almost no money left. But London is an expensive place, so I kind of expected that.

* Was housing included in your program cost? Yes
* Was food included in your program cost? Yes
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? I probably spent $200 every week. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? The cost of eating out adds up VERY QUICKLY. Just keep that in mind.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

  • Getting to know other students well
  • Getting to know professors well
  • Traveling abroad
* What could be improved?
  • More time with locals!
  • Less time sitting in class learning. How about having class at the museum?
  • More time in Paris. ;)
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I knew how tired I would feel all the time. Spring terms are hard, and the schedule was rigorous.
