About
The opportunity to work with an array of rare and endangered animals in an exotic locale of rice terraces, rainforests and active volcanoes sets this veterinary experience, and you, apart.
Your global journey in veterinary medicine begins at wildlife rescue centers on beautiful Bali and Sulawesi. Here you’ll take a comparative view of approaches to long-term care and rehabilitation while receiving unprecedented access to fascinating native species. Get up close and personal with orangutans, sea eagles, sun bears, cassowaries, sea turtles and peacocks, and see how veterinarians in the field put scientific principles into action. Gain real-world experience in preventive medicine as you help veterinarians analyze parasites, de-worm animals and administer vaccinations. Provide life enrichment to stimulate rescued animals in their enclosures and learn about pre-release health screenings. Then embed yourself in community-level animal care by working with the indigenous Bali dog population, conducting physical exams on animals living in local villages and educating the public on animal welfare issues.
As if these face-to-face animal encounters weren’t thrilling enough, spectacular scenery and cultural richness astounds at every turn. After a thrilling river tubing trip down the Ayung, we find time to snorkel with giant manta rays at the famed Manta Point and attend an ancient tribal Kecak Fire and Trance Dance in Ubud. For aspiring veterinarians, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to connect with Bali’s unique communities and animal kingdom.
