About

In Bali, encounter, treat and rehabilitate an array of animals and endangered species that are as varied and exotic as this magical island.

You don’t come to Bali in search of the ordinary. Here, your journey into veterinary medicine will be decidedly unique with a focus on rescue and rehabilitation of lorries, parrots, sea turtles, reptiles, bears and primates. Against a backdrop of lush rice terraces, pristine beaches and active volcanoes, work alongside veterinarians at wildlife rescue centers on Bali and Sulawesi. Gain hands-on veterinary experience while conducting physical exams, practicing preventive medicine and learning about animal behavior and anatomy. During visits to an elephant sanctuary and shark rehabilitation project, see the harsh realities of animal tourism and the illegal animal trade firsthand. Then, make a tangible difference by caring for animals living in local communities and assisting a non-profit working to protect Bali’s indigenous dog from extinction. While here, you’ll quickly discover that Bali’s people are as fascinating as its animal kingdom, and true Balinese culture is on full display at a Kecak Fire and Trance Dance in Ubud, Bali’s cultural epicenter.

For aspiring vets, this program offers a rare opportunity to venture beyond cats and dogs and get up close and personal with orangutans, sea eagles, sun bears, cassowaries, sea turtle, peacocks and more. Open your eyes to a different way of life and leave having made meaningful connection to Bali’s communities and animal kingdoms.
