Broadreach: Bonaire - Advanced Scuba 12-Day Adventure

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I became rescue certified and was able to participate in many dives. All of the dives were different and the night dives were especially interesting.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The house we stayed in was right on the water and had an amazing view with a pool that we would hang out in after a long day of diving. The space was great it was big and had a lot of great hang out spots which we would play cards or watch movies at night.

* Food:

The food was very fresh and it was fun to go grocery shopping and cook as a group.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I felt like we got to learn a lot about the diving culture of Bonaire as the entire island was surrounded by dive sites.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

We had many chances to step out of our comfort zones to try new things. Nothing was forced and everything was perfectly safe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I would do the program again for sure. I learned so much and became much more comfortable with diving.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Our counselors told us where to spend and save money so that we got the most out of everything we brought.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? I spent about $15 on food each week which was just snacks and $50 on souvenirs.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? I would say not to spend too much on food so that you can bring home something to remember the trip.

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • Getting my rescue certification
  • Dive cites
  • The people and counselors on the trip
* What could be improved?
  • To have a little more rest time
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I would say that it was more work than I expected to become a rescue diver in a short time. However, I got so much out of it and it was always fun doing the training. I would definitely recommend this trip to divers who want to become more comfortable in the water and broaden their training.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
