Broadreach: Programs at Sea - Caribbean Tropical Marine Biology
I learned a lot about myself and what I want out of life. I would happily relive this experience again and again.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
My program was full of educational experiences that added to the trip as a whole. The trip was enlightening and very exciting. I loved every minute of it! |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
|
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I loved my boat and crew-mates! The first week was a little rough, getting adjusted to the schedule, but after that it felt like a home away from home. |
* Food: |
The food is what you make it, literally! You make your own breakfast, lunch, and dinner with the help of your crew-mates, of course. Everyone on my program was pretty good at cooking so we ate really good the whole trip and even if your not good at cooking there's a book a easy recipes you can follow. Overall, I was stuffed every night. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
My program was more based on Marine Biology and scuba diving but that did not stop the instructors from teaching us about the local culture. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
While aboard my ship I got a bit seasick and was actually sick my first week (just a cold) but my instructors made sure I got the proper care. I was not worried about being sick while aboard my ship. |
* Safety: |
Since my program went to multiple islands we lived aboard a ship so we were very safe at night but even when we were in the towns I felt completely safe. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
Money was not a problem on my trip and I only brought $200 for my three week trip. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | Maybe $50 it depends on what you buy on certain islands. |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Make sure you leave out some money for the airport (on the way there and on the way back) I recommend at least $60. |
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | No |

A Look Back
* What did you like most about the program? |
|
* What could be improved? |
|
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | I wish I knew that if I took an underwater camera or GoPro it would not have been ruined. I also wish I knew to bring more bathing suits than I did (I brought 5, I recommend at least 8). |
Reasons For Studying Abroad
To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you. |
The Academic or LinguistYou went abroad with specific academic goals in mind; the program credentials and rigor of your coursework abroad were very important to you. You had a great time abroad, but never lost sight of your studies and (if applicable) were diligent with your foreign language study. Good for you! |
