Studying, but also immersing yourself into the culture of London Past Review
By Laura F (liberal studies, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo) for
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo: London - London Study Summer Program
I learned a lot more about myself. I have gained confidence and know that I can travel about a foreign city by myself. I got to know and love another culture and now want to return.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The classes were very hands on, similar to Cal Poly. The teaching and grading was also similar because we had two teachers from our University who taught classes. The workload was a lot for the six weeks however, the teachers gave us a break when they noticed that students were fatigued. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
I feel that the facilities and administration were very knowledgeable. I cannot think of any horrible weaknesses that need changing. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
We were housed with other students from our home University. The location was great and we felt very safe and close to everything. The only downside was how run down the apartment flat was. The building was very old however, a little work done on it would improve it greatly. |
* Food: |
We got advice from our teachers who have been to London before. We were able to find a lot of good and easy restaurants to go to. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
We were able to take a weekend trip to Paris which was a great opportunity for everyone to bond. The other field trips were a lot of fun. We were able to be exposed to different cultures that make up the city of london. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
London is a very safe city. Like all cities, you just need common sense about going out and how you carry yourself. I did not have any need to go see a doctor when there. However, they had plenty of pharmacies within the area for medications and supplies. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
