Canterbury: A beautiful City Past Review
By Elias W (ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE/LETTERS., Illinois State University) for
Canterbury Christ Church University: Canterbury - Direct Enrollment & Exchange
I would say that this experience has broadened my view on life. It helped me to be more independent and communicative.
Personal Information

Review Your Program
|
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The work was much more independent with only one or two assignments for each module. I feel that the instructors expected more work on the students part for each lecture. The grading system in England is a little different than America; an A is 70 and above, a B is 60 and above, a C is 50 and above, etc. |
|
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The only negative thing I can think of was the time it took university to repair any faulty plumbing or electrical work. |
|
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
|
| * Food: |
The food was less flavorful, but still good. If you ever eat out, just eat at a pub. They have the best food and deals. |
|
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
We went to the Guy Fawkes bonfire in an adjacent town. It was like a cheap carnival back home, but it was still a good time. Dover Castle was the best field trip that we went on. |
|
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
| * Safety: |
Canterbury is considered the safest city in England, but like any other city in the world, there is still risk going out at night. I had two friends who witnessed two men beating up another man in the streets. |
| If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
|
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
| Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | $2500, but bring more if you can. |
| Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Plan out what you think you will need, then add another $1000. |
Language
| How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | None |
| If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition? |
|
Direct Enrollment/Exchange
| * Did you study abroad through an exchange program or did you directly enroll in the foreign university? | Direct Enrollment |
