A Plane Ride to Life: Canterbury Past Review

By (English Studies, Illinois State University) for

Canterbury Christ Church University: Canterbury - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes, my study abroad experience was very much worth it. It helped teach me the best way I work.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I liked the workload, grading system, and teaching methods of England.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I didn't feel as if the administration of the international programs even cared about the international students that much. Very low participation.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I liked my living arrangments, it was great location compared to both the library and the campus.

* Food:

Considering you buy your own food there really are no dietary restrictions.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The pub atmosphere in England is a big part of the social life, as is clubbing and sports.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

The health issues are hard because, as the English have free healthcare for citizens, the university doesn't have a health department. Because of this the cost of health expenses are horribly high.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? About twenty dollars on food, and about 50 dollars on personal expenses.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? You will want to travel more, and buy more souvenirs than you will expect.
