A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? If you are shy and always feel like you aren't experiencing the most that you should be out of life, you should defiantly study abroad. I was always the shy, quiet girl in class and in social settings. I never had any confidence, but lots of independence. Studying abroad gave me a chance to show my independence to my parents in a big way, but to also meet people from all over the world, I now have a best friend who was my roommate in England. I talk to her everyday and we became instantly close just after 3 months. I also had the most wonderful group of students from ISU, out of the all the students I went with, I talk and am close to every single one of them. We aren't only a group of students who studied abroad, we became a family. We even met students from Arkansas State University who we all keep in touch with. These people were my family for 3 months, and I can't imagine life without them now. This experience gave me so much confidence and allowed me to be myself for once, and it's true, the more you are yourself the better friends you make. Cause these people got to know the real you, especially while traveling “I have found out that there ain’t no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.” – Mark Twain This is the absolute truth, living and traveling with these people, you get to experience their true personality. And because everyone is scared and doesn't know anyone we all were available or support and understood each others situation. We all came from different walks of life, but we were all able to connect with one another over traveling, likes, dislikes and the fact that wherever we go, whatever we do, we will never forget the experiences we had together.
