The Crazy & Charming Canterbury Past Review

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
This experience was one that I will never forget. There is never another time in your life that you are able to leave your own country and explore so many others in such a short period of time. Not even many adults can say that they've been to Italy or Spain, let alone left the country! I have made lifelong friends from this experience and now have friends across the ocean!

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Everyone who works at CCCU is very friendly and helpful. They can be a bit unorganized at times, especially at the beginning and the end of the program.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Our flats in the Parham Road Student Village were a good 15 minute walk from campus, which was good and bad. It was good because we were only 2 blocks away from the grocery store, ASDA, and that helped us out a lot. It was a bit bad because we had such a walk to get to class and it was even worse to get to the library, which was closer to a 30-40 minute walk.

* Food:

It is true that English food is kind of tasteless, but ASDA being so close helped us to make our own meals. Most of the pubs had pretty good food.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Our program provided many field trips that allowed us to experience even more of the country that we were living in. I'm really glad that I got to see so much more of England.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

As England has countrywide medical coverage, American students had to register with it to seek medical attention, doctor visits or prescribed medication. The University had two health centers associated with them and it was easy to register.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Food: 20-40 pounds Pubs: 15-20 pounds Misc. shopping: 10-30 pounds
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? When traveling, don't forget about paying for transportation to and from airports in your host country and the country you are visiting!

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None

Direct Enrollment/Exchange

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Canterbury is a city about 2 hours from London. It's a city full of history around every corner. If you love exploring, this city has a lot to discover! The city is much more laid back compared to the bustling life in London.
