CEA CAPA Education Abroad: Dublin, Ireland

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was definitely worth while. The Administration in Dublin is absolutely amazing. Overall, it's a great exercise in patience and learning when you are in a place you know nothing about.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Teachers and classes were excellent.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The administration makes the whole trip worth it. Most genuine, caring people ever.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Apartment was nice and in a great location.

* Food:

Food in Ireland is expensive

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

It's hard to make Irish friends as you're in an International school and not an Irish school. You really have to go out of your way to meet people. However, it's impossible to not be in touch with the culture as you live in the heart of the city.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not great, not awful. $70-100 a week when nothing is happening, and $100+ during any week with a trip or an event going on.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $50
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Try to limit eating out

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • The Administration
* What could be improved?
  • Ways to meet local people
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? The only negative I would say about the program is that you will be in an International School and not an Irish school. I had expected the latter and hoped to meet locals through school. However, there are still many international students for you to meet and become friends with in the CEA school, it will just be a little harder to meet Irish friends living in the city around you.
