CEA CAPA Education Abroad: Florence, Italy

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained so much insight about culture, society, myself and travel. It really opened my eyes to how important it is to get out and travel to see the world. It was an amazing time being able to live in another society and seeing how different it is.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The work was tough, but there was an amazing staff and ample resources provided that we were set up for success!

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The staff at CAPA went above and beyond my original expectations! They were so helpful with everything ranging from schoolwork to where to get a quick bite to eat. I always felt comfortable talking to them and creating professional relationships with all the staff.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The 2 bedroom apartment that I stayed in was so cozy and secure. All the appliances worked up to par and everything about it made me feel like I was at home!

* Food:

The food was impeccable, I wish I could have brought home all of it with me!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

It was hard to adjust at first, but after a week or so I really felt at home in Florence! Everyone was so nice, welcoming and willing to offer help. I felt like I fit right in and that was exactly where I belonged.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Fortunately, I did not have a health issue while abroad.

* Safety:

I never felt unsafe while in Italy. Of course I made sure to never be alone and always use a buddy system. But, there was never a time where I felt my safety was an issue. You have to think smart, just like you would any where else.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

If I could, I would choose the same program again and again every time. This opportunity was a once in a lifetime experience and easily one of the best times of my life. I learned so much more than just the class content that I was taking abroad.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Most of the money that I spent went to dining out.
