Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The courses where taught by British Professors, who were very knowledgeable and passionate about their subject. They do hold you to the high standard of academics in Britain. They are very paper, essay exams, and presentation oriented instead of multiple choice exams.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The advisers where extremely nice and helpful. Many of the staff where previously students on the program and are willing to help students in anyway. They also have great advise and suggestions for the city and travel. The administration is also very strict. They have man rules and they do not mess around. You will get sent home if you disobey. There is also a very strict attendance policy.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Housing is all over the city and there is no guarantee where you will be or who you will be with. Some people were in the center of the city, others were above bars in the cool funky neighborhoods, some where down the road from CAPA, and others were in the suburbs. London is a very spread out city. Every apartment was different, and there is a option to have a homestay, which people loved.

* Food:

You had to do your own grocery shopping and cooking or eating out, but I really enjoyed cooking with my flatmate and the groceries are cheap. It was sometimes hard to get your groceries back home because you don't have a car, but it was a great experience.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The classes are all American students, but students get a student card from the nearby University, Imperial College, in order to join clubs, teams, and social events. CAPA also has "MyEducation" events that bring students into cultural activities.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

If you are really sick you have to go to the Emergency Room (the A&E) which is always a really long wait. But it is not a third-world country they have drugstores and good doctors.

* Safety:

It is a major city and you are only as safe as your choices. Don't go to a stranger's house alone, don't get into a cab if it is unlicensed, do not leave your friends drunk alone in the streets, etc. Be smart, be safe. CAPA and pre-departure orientation goes over all of the safety information.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

London is an expensive city, but if you don't eat out all of the time and cook at home and pack lunches it is cheaper. You should plan on having a good amount of money in your account as well as a credit card for emergencies

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? £40-£80 a week
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Pack food for the day. Do not get starbucks! attend all events that serve food. Don't go out drinking every night.

Individual Course Reviews

Course Department:
Instructor: Dr. Wilson
Instruction Language: Enlgish
Comments: This was the best course I have ever taken. It was challenging, but I learned a lot from a very knowledgeable professor. We had a few field trips that were low key but got us out of the class room and into the city. There was two group presentations, two big papers, and two exams, all of which was relatively enjoyable and extremely educational. A large part of assessment was in class participation. The main component was discussion.
Credit Transfer Issues: The credits transfer just fine and this course could fulfill requirements for Business.
