CEA CAPA Education Abroad: London, England
I made some of my best friends here and had the experience of a lifetime. I can't encourage students to study abroad enough.
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 1 month - 6 months |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The classes I took through CAPA were very interactive, which I really enjoyed. They got you out of the classroom and emphasized the global environment we were in. Many of my classes involved reading the local newspapers. I thought it was a cleaver idea to integrate us more into daily life. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
CAPA staff was always available to help anyone with anything. They even counseled my roommate when her boyfriend broke up with her. They are very supportive but not overbearing. Help is always available when needed for classes, travel, or anything possible. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I lived outside of the city, which was not exactly where I envisioned living. However, the neighborhood was very safe and quite lovely. |
* Food: |
London food is not the most gourmet thing but hey, who doesn't like fish and chips? |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I felt very integrated especially through the field trips and outings organized by CAPA. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
I used my own health insurance and was able to waive the fee. I am not sure how it worked for others and while I was there I had no incidents of needing a doctor. |
* Safety: |
I never felt unsafe in London, even at night. Don't travel alone and make sure you keep your belonging on you, hidden and zipped up at all times. I didn't have any trouble though. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
I spent a lot of money. However, I did not take the time to look up scholarships or make a budget for myself. If I had done the work I could have spent a lot less. I also did not have to eat out every day. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | Around $250 |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Buying your food from Tesco and not eating lunch every day at Nando's will save you money. |
