That Time I Studied Abroad and It Changed My Life Past Review

By (Interpersonal Communication, University of Delaware) - abroad from 09/04/2013 to 12/14/2013 with

CEA CAPA Education Abroad: London, England

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I can't even begin to explain. Spending a long chunk of time in another country is a remarkable, profoundly changing experience. To be so deeply immersed in another city's culture is an experience everybody should try to have. Study abroad matured me and changed me, for the better, without a doubt.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The CAPA Education Center and Staff were a great resource. They were so nice and knowledgeable about London! They provided great activities and were a great support system for easing a student into spending a whole semester abroad.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The apartments were really nice! Even though I lived in a residential area on the western part of the city, it was so easy to get into central London because the Tube is excellent!

* Food:

The food was amazing! The program doesn't provide any food, but London was great. It's definitely a myth that the food in London isn't good!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

By the end of my trip, I never wanted to leave. I felt like a true Londoner!

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Luckily, I didn't have any health issues on the program. But my friend did, and CAPA was great about making sure she was okay and helping her with her travel insurance papers.

* Safety:

London is one of the safest cities in Europe. While you should always be wary when traveling, I never felt worried or scared while in London. There are police around and people always willing to help.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Honestly, I didn't record how much I spent per week. It's just something you have to feel out.

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Pay for experiences, not things. But still make sure you buy souvenirs!
