What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Going into this program, I had never been exposed to any international experiences. It was nerve-wracking and forced me to step out of my comfort zone, but it taught me more about myself than I could have ever imagined. For one, I gained a sense of confidence by being abroad on my own for two months. I was forced to learn a new education system, international work force, and guide myself around a foreign city as my own tour guide. I learned how independent I am when faced with the right opportunities and that really gave me a new sense of pride and self confidence. I also learned a lot professionally at my internship as well. I learned how to adapt to an international work environment that was fast pace and high strung. I also became a better intercultural communicator at my job by interacting with co-workers from around the world. It gave me a competitive edge in the work force that will set me apart from others when applying for jobs after graduation.

London in general is a VERY expensive city. The currency exchange rate from the American dollar to the UK pound is also not in good standing at this moment.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $200 - $300
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Save up for your study abroad trip and plan out expenses at least a year in advance. I would have been better off if more planning went into it on my part.

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • Internship placement
  • The culture of London
  • The living arrangements
* What could be improved?
  • Overall expenses
  • Student travel discounts
  • Overload of work in academic classes
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I knew how short two months abroad really is. Regardless of the expenses, I would have opted to study abroad for an entire semester instead of just a summer. There are so many more places I want to see and experience abroad, I wish I could stretched out my time abroad for another month or two.
