On-site administration of your program

The staff at the front desk of CAPA were friendly each day and helpful with answering any questions. The internship and academics team downstairs say they're there for you and I saw that firsthand. Everyone on the CAPA team in London wanted to see me succeed and they were nothing but helpful throughout my time there. Everything through CAPA was well organized and the emails they sent each week kept all participants informed.

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I was in ACORN housing, as opposed to CAPA housing. The location in Bloomsbury (a street away from the British Museum, between Holborn and Russell Square tube stations) was perfect and central. The commute to my internship (in Westminster) and to CAPA (Kensington) were manageable.

You're on your own for food, which the program tells you up front. I enjoyed cooking for myself. Although some days it was more difficult than others. Budget your spending on food and plan the week out ahead of time!

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The experience of interning 20 hours a week really made me feel fully integrated into the London culture. Working on a diverse team, I met so many people from all around Europe. Creating a routine for going to my internship and to class made me feel like a local as well. Commuting each day, you'll learn the tube map really quick (and CAPA including the tube pass for unlimited travel zones 1 & 2 helps A LOT!)

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I got sick in the first month and CAPA told us during orientation to go to the pharmacy to get medicine because they're very knowledgeable in London. Taking that advice, the pharmacist by where I lived gave me medicine right away (at a very reasonable price) and I was better within a few days. If you get sick- go to the pharmacy!

London's a pretty safe city and I never once felt unsafe. CAPA mandates that students have a working UK phone and their alert system checked in on us if needed. I felt safe knowing they kept tabs on the participants safety.

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

London is VERY expensive. The cost of things look the same as the US because the numbers are about the same, but the 1.5 exchange rate makes it tough. I spent $150+ each week on food and entertainment. Consider how much you will eat out, especially without a meal plan it can add up quickly.
