Best opportunity of my life! Past Review

CEA CAPA Education Abroad: London, England

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was the best opportunity of my life and I would do it over again in a heartbeat if I could. I learned more things about myself professional and personally within 6 weeks more than I have at my 2 years in college. I found a passion in the work that I did at my internship and I found such a love for cities and for traveling.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I took one class over the course of 6 weeks and it was SO AMAZING. It was called "Analyzing Global London" and I can't imagine living in the city without having taken this class. I learned so much about different neighborhoods and explored and took field trips to parts of London I wouldn't have visited otherwise. I also learned so much about the history of the place and analyzed it more than the normal Londoner so I feel like I got to understand the environment a lot better.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

CAPA was always so helpful whenever I had any questions or confusion about anything. Every member of staff was so nice and was actually eager to help you find your place in London and fit into the daily schedule.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

i could not have been any more happier with my living arrangement. I was placed in Camden, now my favorite part in all of London with the best food and best entertainment. It was nice to be in a neighborhood filled with lively young people and the apartment itself was very big and spacious and had all the amenities we needed.

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

CAPA was the perfect program for me. The length was just enough for me to get acclimated into London but also I was able to leave before I got too home sick. The costs were not too expensive and it offered me everything I wanted in a study abroad experience (to live in an apartment and be with other Americans, to have an internship, and to take classes).

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Don't eat out a lot.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

  • Internship placement was perfect
  • Location of apartment was perfect
  • Friendly and helpful staff
* What could be improved?
  • Nothing honestly
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Be prepared to be homesick but know that you will find amazing friends who'll help you get through it and it'll be an amazing time nonetheless.
