CEA CAPA Education Abroad: London, England

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
London is a very international city, which I wasn't expecting. I met just as many non-English people than I did actual English people. That aspect really opened my eyes to the world on a global level, and that was a benefit of the program I didn't expect to get.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The academic side of this experience wasn't very hard at all. The professors were very aware that experiencing England is what people were truly there for, which meant the work load was very light. This is good for the person who wants to travel and get as much out of the country as possible.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

CAPA administration and just general staff are amazing. Everybody is friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I was placed in an extremely great neighborhood. This neighborhood, Belgravia, is known for its wealth, and it was pleasantly surprising that we were placed there. It was also a really great location in relation to both school and attractions.

* Food:

Food in London is pretty much up to the individual. You can shop for cheap at the local Sainsbury's or dine out for a pretty expensive meal. A healthy combination of both is the best way to go, though.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

CAPA provided free admission to a lot of events. My favorite was a pantomime, which was a fun show and, best of all, free!

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Don't be shy! Get out of your flat, go do lots of things! Your time abroad will fly. However, don't feel bad about taking a day off and zoning out in front of your tv. That can be just as culture as trekking through London!
